Relevance
The project meets 3 needs of contemporary education, which have been identified by the COVID-19 crisis:
1. A need to digitally empower university teachers who rapidly have to transform from teaching professionals into learning experience designers and experts in emerging technologies;
2. A need to close the gap between self-perceived and actual digital competences of university students by equipping them with digital fluency/ intelligence/engagement skills, but also with pedagogical skills to sensitize them towards digital inclusion of underprivileged and underrepresented groups and to empower them to address sensitive contemporary societal issues while developing their digital competences;
3. A need to combine the digital empowerment of teachers and students with the pedagogical approach of service-learning understanding that this promotes diversity and inclusion, while establishing connections between higher education institutions and communities at risk, either in direct proximity or in rural/remote areas.

Program: Knowledge Alliances Project: Rural 3.0: Service Learning for the Rural Development EU funding: 999.138,80€ Rural 3.0 is set as a knowledge alliance between different European Higher Education Institutions and rural partners, each with a different history, quite distinct experiences with rural social entrepreneurship and/or rural service-learning, different educational systems, as well as specific community needs regarding the location, politics, and the economy of the different rural communities. UNIVERSITY PARTNERS RURAL COMMUNITY PARTNERS Rural 3.0 intends to bring higher education institutions and rural partners together to work on a common issue - development of the necessary knowledge and skills needed to make changes in rural communities. It supports the modernisation of Europe's HE through the transnational curriculum based on the innovative service-learning approach to teaching and learning that brings students, academics, and the community, together to jointly develop solutions for challenging issues, as well as product and process innovation. It aims to stimulate social entrepreneurship of HEIs* teaching staff and rural entities through transnational cooperation between HEIs and rural partners. Welcome !
The Museology Sub-Department has formed part of the Department of Information and Communication Sciences since 1984.
The person most responsible for its foundation and theoretically positioning museology within information and communication sciences was Prof. Ivo Maroević (1937 – 2007). The goal of the sub-department has always been to provide future professional various aspects of knowledge related to the field of heritage, preparing and helping them to better understand the processes of construction, management and interpretation of heritage regardless of its institutional context – museum, nature park, archaeological site, community/public library, interpretation centre and the like, always for the benefit of the community.
The research and teaching staff of the sub-department comprises five members - Dr. Žarka Vujić, full professor, Dr. Goran Zlodi, assistant professor, Dr. Darko Babić, assistant professor, Dr. Željka Miklošević and Dr. Helena Stublić, both research and teaching assistants. In order to provide a wider range of topics and courses in the graduate programme, the sub-department cooperates with other members of the Department of Information and Communication Sciences and with Denis Vokić, assistant professor at the University of Dubrovnik’s Department for Art and Restoration.
Through lectures, seminars, consultation and supervision of students’ essays and final theses, we facilitate the process of adoption and creation of theoretical knowledge and the best forms of practice. We equally stimulate students’ creativity and encourage interdisciplinary practices by advising and strongly motivating students to choose theoretically demanding and practically applicable subjects for their final theses, active participation in the heritage community in Croatia and abroad (internships and Erasmus programme), involvement in research projects which are conducted by the sub-department’s staff.

Žarka Vujić PhD, full professor Office hours: - Wednesday: 8:30 - 10 AM, room E-324 E-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Phone: +385-1-4092322 |
Resume:
Žarka Vujić was born on 19 October 1959 in North Croatia. In 1988 she graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb by defending the thesis entitled Painting as a Museum Object at the Art History Department. After completing the graduate programme of information sciences at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics in Varaždin in 1992, she obtained an MA degree in Museology (Foundation and Development of Art Museums and Galleries in Zagreb). She received a PhD degree in the same field in 1998 at the Department where she is currently employed (the thesis entitled The Concept of Museum and Forms of Collecting in 17th-century Croatia).
In 1985, Ž. Vujić was employed as a museum technician and librarian at the Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters, which today functions within the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences in Zagreb. At the end of 1988 she took up a position of a head librarian and researcher at the Institute of Art History in Zagreb. In 1993 she started working as an assistant researcher at the Museology Sub-Department where she advanced to the position of full professor in 2012. She served as acting chair of the sub-department in 2002-2007, and was elected again in 2012.
She has published several book chapters and numerous scientific and professional papers. The practical work she engaged in consists of five distinct and recognized exhibition projects and two concepts of permanent exhibitions currently awaiting realization. She participated in numerous international and Croatian scientific and professional conferences. She authored two books both of which were awarded. Sources of Museums in Croatia received the Annual Award of the Croatian Museum Association in 2007, and the second book, The Ullrich Salon on its Centenary, which was based on an interdisciplinary research, received the Annual Award of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2011. Her editorial work includes the book In the Memory of Ivo Maroević published in 2009.
In the period from 1991 to this day, Ž. Vujić has participated in seven research projects with various degrees of involvement and assuming different roles. Taken as a whole, her interests have since the very beginning of her scientific work been focused on three research areas – historical museology (history of museums and collecting in Croatia), theoretical museology (collecting and collection formation, ascribing meaning and creating heritage) and the interdisciplinary field combining museology and art history.
Her academic efforts have always been directed to contemporary practices which have included field classes and regular visits to museums, inviting guest lecturers and preparing students for small-scale research projects. As a results, her experience as a supervisor has grown substantially, especially with students in the graduate programme. In supervising students’ final thesis she strongly encourages interdisciplinary approach to museum related topics. She equally publishes papers with her younger colleagues and promotes students’ scientific and practical work (Rector’s Award for a Group Museological Project 2011).
Fields of interest:
So far she has been working on developing of historical museology in Croatia and illuminating historical gathering techniques, but also the notion and theory of gathering in general.
