Resume:

Jelena Jurišić received her PhD  in Philology, specialising in Journalism, from the Moscow State University in 1998. Since autumn 1998, she has been teaching at the Department of Journalism (now named the Department of Communication Sciences) of the Centre for Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb. She is currently Assistant Professor in communication sciences. Her courses at undergraduate, graduate and post graduate studies cover journalism, print media, history of communication studies, media theories, media convergence, social media and geopolitics.

She started her journalistic career in 1993 as a foreign correspondent for the Croatian daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija in Moscow, where she worked until the end of 1998. After moving to Zagreb, she wrote for the most popular newspapers in Croatia, covering foreign affairs, particularly the region of former Soviet Union; from 1999 to the end of 2007 for Jutarnji list, and in 2008 for Vecernji list. After finishing her journalistic career, she has continued to be present in Croatian and regional media as a commentator: expert for Russia and other countries from post Soviet region.

She is a member of COST Action „The Digital Literacy and Multimodal Practices  of Young Children“ (DigiLitEY). She is head of research project named Croatian family in contemporary media  environment, which focuses on media consumption and its influence on family and media and digital literacy of family members as well. In addition, her current research interests include influence of social media on journalism, trust in the  media, political campaigns in mass media and on social media, covert advertising and media covering of current topics, e.g. refugee crisis.
