Resume:

Born on October 25th, 1951. Graduated from the Classical high school in Zagreb in 1970. Graduated Radio communications at the Faculty of electrical engineering in Zagreb, with the thesis “Lasers used in communication” in 1974. Received a doctoral degree at the Department of information and communication sciences at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with the thesis “Theory and rules of segmenting text written in Croatian” in 1998.

Has participated and still participates as a researcher in several projects by the Ministry of science (since 1990 to the present).

He is to co-director of the postgraduate program of lexicology and encyclopedic science in the making (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Lexicographic institute). He war a mentor for several dozens of graduate thesis, along with several bachelor and doctoral thesis, and five students under his mentorship received the Rector’s award.

He has led or participated in several projects in applying and introducing computer technology into high and primary education, publishing and the justice system.

Published around 40 scientific and professional works, books and higher education textbooks, and around 20 presentation at scientific conventions, both in Croatia and abroad, in the fields of information science, programming, computerized text and natural language processing, lexicography and encyclopedic science.

Awards: Golden medal in the international competition in recognizing classical literature and language (San Remo, Italy, 1970). Rector’s award for his student work “Remotely communicating with a computer”, 1973. First prize in the international public competition for the National and university library project (as a member of the project team in charge of the computer and information project, 1975).

  • deputy President and then president of the Comity for computerizing the Croatian education system at the Ministry for Education, from 2000 to 2003
  • a member of the Coordinating team for the preparation for Croatia’s participation in the World summit on the information society (WSIS) at the Ministry of Science and Technology (from 2001 – 2003), and in that capacity he attended two preliminary international conferences in Riga in 2001, and in Mainz in 2002
  • a member of the Professional council of the Computer department at the Polytechnic College in Zagreb (since 1999)
